The Night When Boaz Proposed...

Leading up to their 1 year anniversary, Su-Ann asked Boaz if they were going to do anything for it. Arrogantly, Boaz would mention continually that maybe they should just stay at home and just 'be together' instead of doing anything special. Suffice it to say, Su-Ann was upset that Boaz made very little effort to commemorate their 1st year together with anything special.

However, that was not what Boaz had planned. He knew he wanted to propose to Su-Ann on their anniversary but he wanted to surprise her with something special. So rewind back a few weeks where Boaz approached Su-Ann's mum for advice on getting an engagement ring. She was extremely helpful and made the necessary arrangements with a ring and jewellery dealer and friend in Kuala Lumpur. The plan that day was for Boaz to take a day off from work to go down with Su-Ann's parents to KL. However, Boaz had told Su-Ann that he needed to work and did nothing out of the ordinary when leaving the house for work. Instead this time, when Boaz left the house, he made his way to a church member's place to hide out for Su-Ann's parents. As they left the house, they simply told Su-Ann that they were going to KL and as predicted, she didn't ask why. Everything that happened that day went according to plan and Boaz came home with a ring for his future bride-to-be.

On the day of their anniversary, Boaz had arranged everything with Su-Ann's parents to be prepared as night falls. The plan was to arrive home from work with a large bouquet of gerbera flowers but have it hidden in the car. Boaz was to enter the house as per normal with Su-Ann's mum going out to the car to bring in the bouquet and hide it from Su-Ann in their bedroom. After dinner, Boaz would then reluctantly tell Su-Ann that they would go out but that she should wear something nice. As she got ready in her room, Su-Ann's parents would help him lay and light the candles on the floor that would light a path around certain parts of the house. At each stop, she would read a card that represented a significant moment in their lives. And she finally gets to the end, she would then be greeted by Boaz from behind holding the large bouquet of gerbera flowers. After he passes the bouquet to her, she would then be directed to place the bouquet on the couch behind her where he will pop open the ring. There, he was going to propose to her. So, that was the plan...but as we all know, nothing really goes according to plan.

Su-Ann's mum managed to bring the bouquet of flowers in safely. Su-Ann continued to asked about whether they were going to do anything special for their anniversary and before dinner, Boaz 'reluctantly' announced to Su-Ann that they were going somewhere nice after dinner. So after dinner, Su-Ann went to prepare herself when she found a note on her bed with Boaz's phone with a 10 minute timer that ticked with every second. Su-Ann screamed in excitement, "what is this?! Boaz Ang!" He knocked on her door and said, "You have 10 minutes...don't come out and make sure you're ready in 10 minutes." She yelped, "I can't! Not enough time!" as she frantically prepared herself.
As she busied herself, Boaz and her parents swiftly prepared the candles, the notes, the bouquet and also turned off all the lights. Boaz flicked on the CD he prepared earlier with the songs that they love and learnt together. As 10 minutes became 1, Su-Ann screamed saying "I'm not ready! I'm not ready!" Boaz replied, "You better hurry up!" A minute later, the phone buzzed as she opened the door of her room.

"Hello?" she questioned, "hello? Why is it dark?" She walked along the candle path from her room to the kitchen counter where she read her first note. As she walked towards the round dining table, her mum appeared suddenly from the outside room. Like a deer caught in the
headlight, she didn't know what to do and quickly scrambled back the same way she came. Su-Ann was laughing to see her mum appear and disappear in an instant. When she managed to get to the dining table, she picked up the second card. After that, she found herself under the arch where her mum came out earlier with the third note which sat on a small stand. From there, she made her way towards the window next to the front door where the path ended. However, before she could get to the end, her mum again appeared from behind the window! Once more, she paused in her track and quickly turned around quickly making a run for it the same way she came. By then, Su-Ann was laughing so hard. When she finally calmed herself down, she picked up the last note and read, "20th January, 2012...Boaz Proposed to Ann." Immediately, Boaz appeared behind her.

"Hi there," he greeted her with the bouquet of flowers in his hand, "I got this for you." As he handed the bouquet over to her, Su-Ann became speechless. "Put the bouquet there," as he pointed towards the couch behind her. Just as she turned to place the bouquet, he revealed the box with the ring sitting snugly inside. He lowered himself to one knee, gazed into her eyes with his heart in his mouth and asked, "Su-Ann Yeoh, will you marry me?" To his surprised, she didn't say yes! She had every intention to jokingly say "no" but simply could not bring herself to say it. Boaz had also planned ahead that if she did jokingly say "no", he would stand up, turn around and walk away. Fortunately for them both, she resisted the temptation and simply nodded her head. To this day, she still has not said "yes" to his proposal!

Unfortunately, that was not all that happened that night. With the musical playing in the background, Boaz timed the CD he made to play 'their song' at the time. From the movie "Enchanted", the song "So Close" came on where Boaz led his young fiancée to an opened area where the moment of the night embraced them as they danced to the music. When the song ended, they sat down on the carpeted dance floor. Boaz had told Su-Ann's parents that when he proposed, he would quickly call out for them but he had forgotten to call them in! They grew restless and decided to invite themselves in through the back door. Hugs and tears were shared as they all embraced. As the night drew on, Su-Ann ran to her room to grab her phone to message her brother. Boaz sat down on the carpet while her parents disappeared into the house. When Su-Ann returned, she rushed back to be with her fiancé with her phone in hand. Boaz recalls that as he sat there, he could foresee the worst happening - Su-Ann running straight towards a no-longer lit candle and kicking it all over him, splashing wax all over his shirt, vest and jeans that Su-Ann loved and bought for him. Predictably, that is exactly what happened as she mustered all the power in her over-excited legs to kick the hot candle wax all over her fiancé. That was when he called off the wedding. ... Just kidding!
